Acne - The Root Cause

acne.png

Acne is classified as an inflammatory condition creating pimples and inflammation on the face, chest and back. The burden on society from costs of covering medical visits and prescription medications, expense of consumers purchasing numerous products that swear to "clear your skin" and the psychosocial affects of increased risk of depression make this common condition (which continues to increase) something that deserves more attention in the medical community.

I must admit, prior to encountering my journey of functional medicine my go to was prescribe, prescribe, prescribe. All of the mainstream journals pushed the notion through numerous publications that there was no clear link between diet and acne, and that ultimately it was bad genetic make-up that resulted in this condition. In my journey of digging deep, I have learned so much about the pathogenesis (ROOT causes) of acne. I learned that the prescriptions address the end stages of acne, and don't uncover the modifiable factors that exist that could perhaps lessen the burden on society.

Can I get everyone better with just diet and lifestyle changes? No! Anyone who tells you that they can with 100% certainty is not being truthful, or can't provide you with other therapies because of the constraints of their licenses. Does that change the fact that those discussions about what is happening, on a physiological level and what implications that could have for their health going forward, hopefully long after they have won their battle with acne, still need to happen for a holistic approach to health? No, again! My job is not only to treat what I see in front of me, but to also be a mentor, personal coach and teacher to my patients. I firmly believe that information is the most powerful tool. And at the end of the day, I feel confident in explaining risks and benefits of any therapies and engaging in a therapeutic relationship with patients. People trust me to have all the information.

I will be hosting a webinar on ACNE explaining what the ROOT causes are, how they can be naturally influenced, what pharmacological options are available and under what circumstances they can be helpful. I hope people find this informative and feel better prepared to talk to their dermatologist about what options would potentially be right for them.

Ask yourself:
+ Are you ready to learn about acne and how it fits in to overall wellness?
+ Do you want to hear about all options available for acne treatments (not resources aimed at mass marketing)?
+ Are you interested in natural skin care?
